If you follow me on
Instagram, you know by the beacoups of pics posted that I just got back from Market.
It's a magical time that comes twice a year, spring and fall, when designers, buyers, enthusiasts and notables descend on the little town of High Point, North Carolina to scope out the latest and greatest of all things home design.
As a designer, it's one of my favorite events, and this year did not disappoint.
I'm writing this post with much excitement and a little dread at how long it may take to get all these pictures up, but it will be worth it!
Y'all, it was so good this year. We saw lots of mirrored furniture and lush textures (a la 1970), beautiful color combos, and some pretty amazing people.
I took
so many pictures that my phone died several times each day and so I missed out on a few favs, but no one would ever know since I literally took about 1,000 pictures.
As you can imagine, narrowing down my experience was pretty hard, but I've done my best.
Here we go!
One of the first showrooms we hit was the new
Pigeon & Poodle. I feel like the appeal is pretty obvious. The accessory line is full of nature-inspired texture in lots of lush coastal color.
I was delighted to see Charleston local lighting Ro Sham Beaux, a true fav, was in this show room as well. The whimsy-chic vignettes were completely charming and chatting with the J. Douglas girls was such a great way to start off our trip to Market.
My next favorite (these aren't in an particular order, by the way), was
Natural Curiosities. This is a company out of LA that converted an old bowling alley into what is now their studio. I think my attraction was obvious since I lingered around for way longer than I probably should have, but they were just so dang nice and their work was uh-mazing.
Julie Parker, if you're reading this, I obviously thought of you when I saw this. And
my powder room, I you recall.
Amazing screen prints everywhere...
I wish this wasn't blurry. That gold-leaf wing was beautiful.
And these that I somehow just couldn't look away from.
This showroom was so meticulously yet organically curated. My pictures don't do it justice at all. Everywhere you looked, there was something interesting. Fitting for the name.
I have a ton of pictures, and I don't want to overwhelm my little recap any more than it already is, so I think I'm going to do another post on Natural Curiosities a little later.
Absolutely wonderful!
These are two randoms that I can't remember the names of showrooms. I have their catalogues somewhere, but if you saw our stack of cards and books and catalogues, you'd understand why I can't wait on sorting through to post, so I'll get the source ASAP.
I love this bookshelf's interesting construction and ability to house a lot of books in a cool, organic way. Not for the type A's, but maybe that's what I like about it;) A lovely mess (in the best sense of the word). And the floor lamp is pretty great too.
And this is random number two. I actually have a very specific place in a current project for this. Love the elegant shape and finish. It's sophisticated without being stuffy, which is must for me. Love.
These two vignettes, the first by
Amy Howard Home, and the second by
Eloquence also attracted me because of their softness and incorporation of natural elements.
Topiaries and greenery were big, and I love them here. I also really found myself liking the juxtaposition of the tree-cut coffee table and the luxe velvet chairs. The picture doesn't do it justice.
This bedside vignette tends a little more to the shabby-chic side, which isn't always something I'm attracted to, but the whimsy lighting, butterfly box, and coral at the bottom of the bedside table really worked for me.
In the
Surya showroom, I got to have a quick chat while perusing their new rug line with this sweet lady, Candice Olsen!
It must have been something about the rug showrooms, because there was another celeb wandering around
Capel. Sorry for stalking you, Carson. And sorry the picture's blurry. I'd make a lousy paparazzi.
This wasn't the only Queer Eye guy I ran into, but I'm saving the best for last, okay?
Umm...no offense, Carson.
We had a fabulous tour of
Thibaut and got to check out their new textile/wallpaper line, Monterey, which in all of it's cheerfulness was completely alluring.
And this was actually the first time I'd seen their furniture line in person. It was quite beautiful, as you would expect. I think the navy lacquered mirror is by oomph, which was also so fabulous.
Speaking of fabulous, it was a blast to meet the lovely
Moore Councill team. By the time I staggered in to their showroom, I was so exhausted and sitting around a table chatting and sipping a mojito was just what I needed.
And it didn't hurt that their showroom was decked out in whimsy splendor. Really great people, and we can't wait to use their beautiful occasional furniture for some upcoming projects!
Are you tired yet?? I think this is by far the longest post ever to grace this blog.
But there's more!!
This man is the real deal, y'all. Such a down-to-earth person, which completely resonates in his line and in his work. If you're familiar with his book,
American Beauty, you get it. To me, Thom's work is about authenticity and layers, playing up textures and adding interest, leaving nothing to be desired, without being overdone.
Chatting was lovely and his showroom was everything you'd expect. There was so much to love at market this year, but this was my favorite.
Everything about this- the glossy blue wall, the window panel, the wire-front cabinet and red shelves. I just love it.
Swanky.
Me and this guy had a moment. Or maybe it was the Chardonnay. Both were fantastic.
And there you have it! Inspiration abounds at a great spring market!
